Metal-catalysed halogen exchange reactions of aryl halides.

چکیده

Aryl halides are common synthetic targets themselves, and also highly versatile synthetic intermediates. Aryl chlorides are much more widely available and easier to synthesise than the other halide derivatives, so the development of effective methods for interconverting aryl halide derivatives would therefore be extremely useful. This article outlines which transformations are particularly desirable, and describes the progress that has been made on developing methods for carrying out those transformations using copper, nickel or palladium catalysts. The possible mechanisms of these reactions are discussed, with a view to identifying areas for future investigation.

Generation of functionalized aryl and heteroaryl aluminum reagents by halogen-lithium exchange.

Various functionalized aryl and heteroaryl aluminum reagents were obtained by performing I-Li or Br-Li exchange reactions with the corresponding unsaturated organic halides in the presence of i-Bu2AlCl. By means of an appropriate catalyst, the resulting new aluminum species were directly acylated, allylated or arylated. 1,4-Michael additions to enones have also been achieved.

Homocoupling of aryl halides in flow: Space integration of lithiation and FeCl3 promoted homocoupling

The use of FeCl(3) resulted in a fast homocoupling of aryllithiums, and this enabled its integration with the halogen-lithium exchange reaction of aryl halides in a flow microreactor. This system allows the homocoupling of two aryl halides bearing electrophilic functional groups, such as CN and NO(2), in under a minute.

Metal-Catalyzed Cross-Couplings of Aryl Halides to Form C–C Bonds in Aqueous Media

Metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions have developed into a standard component of the synthetic chemist’s toolbox [1–4]. These reactions date to thework ofUllmann and Goldberg in the early 1900s on copper-promoted C–C and C–heteroatom bond formations. Copper remained the catalyst of choice for these reactions until the pioneeringwork ofHeck, Suzuki, Stille, Negishi, and others on palladium-c...

Substituted heteroarenes form the core of numerous pharmacologically active agents and drug substances, as well as agrochemical products, ligands, secondary metabolites, polymers and electronic materials. Notwithstanding widespread recent advances in transition metal-catalysed C–H bond activation processes, Pd-catalysed Suzuki–Miyaura coupling (SMC) of (pseudo)halogenated heteroarenes with (het...

Amide synthesis via nickel-catalysed reductive aminocarbonylation of aryl halides with nitroarenes.

Aminocarbonylation of aryl halides is one of the most useful methods in amide synthesis, but nitroarenes have not been used as a nitrogen source in this method even though they are more economical and accessible than anilines. Reported here is the development of nickel catalysis for the first three-component reactions of aryl halides, Co2(CO)8, and nitroarenes under reductive conditions to prod...
